Shaikul Hadith and Head Teacher of Darul Uloom Deoband Mufti Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri has immensely served the Quran and Hadith while teaching in Islamic Madarsas for 57 years (including 48 years in Darul Uloom Deoband) until his death on 19th May 2020 corresponding 25th Ramdhan 1441. He has been teaching the famous book of Hadith “Sunnan Al-Tirmizi” for more than 30 years and “Sahih Al-Bukhari” for approximately 12 years in Darul Uloom Deoband. He also taught Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi's famous book “Hujjatullah Al-Baligha” for more than 20 years. On one hand, he has left behind lakhs of his students who are imparting religious knowledge across the world. On the other hand, his books are being studied in every corner of the world. He has written books in Arabic, Urdu and Persian languages on Qur'anic exegesis, Hadith commentary, Sirah (Prophet’s life), Usul Tafsir, Usul Hadith, Fiqh, Usul Fiqh, Asma al-Rijal, History, Syntax and Philosophy. He has also authored books on controversial and modern issues. Most of his books have been published several times in lakhs numbers of copies. All of his books are read with great respect all over the world. Many of them have even been included in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and other Madrassas. I am presenting in this article a brief introduction of his books.

Tuhfatul Qaari Commentary of Sahih Al-Bukhari: After the illness of Maulana Naseer Ahmad Khan (Shaikhul Hadith of Darul Uloom Deoband) in 2008 corresponding 1429, Mufti Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri was assigned to teach Bukhari Volume (1). In 1402 (Corresponding 1981), he also taught Bukhari Volume (2). Tuhfatul Qaari, a 12 volume Urdu commentary of Bukhari is in fact a collection of his Bukhari Sharif classes which is not only useful for the Bukhari readers but it is also equally important for understanding other books of Hadith.

Tuhfatul Al-Ma'ee Commentary of Sunan Al-Tirmizi: It is a collection of his classes of Sunan Al-Tirmizi which consists of 8 volumes. Copies of Sunan Al-Tirmizi which were available in India were very old. In this book he has arranged Hadith numbers, chapters and Arabic texts in the correct order, so that it would be easier for the pupils to get benefit from it. Its preface contains valuable information for both teachers and students.

Commentary of Ilal Al-Tirmizi: It is Arabic interpretation of Imam Al Tirmizi's Book of Ilal. The commentary written by Mufti Saeed Ahmad explains the Book of Ilal in a very simple language. The Book of Ilal deals with and defines the reasons which can weaken the authenticity of a Hadith.

Rahmatullah Al-Wasi'ah: There is a book called "Hujjatullah Al-Baligha" written in Arabic by Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi. More than 250 years passed by, but no Urdu commentary of this book could be written. Mufti Saeed Sahab has written this commentary in Urdu under the name of “Rahmatullah Al-Wasi'ah, which consists of 5 volumes. Scholars have greatly appreciated this book.

Research and Commentary on Hujjatullah Al-Baligha: The book “Hujjatullah Al-Baligha was published in 2 volumes after the research and commentary of Mufti Saeed Sahab. His footnote is very useful for Arabic scholars to understand the book.

Tafsir Hidayatul Quran: Maulana Muhammad Usman Kashif Hashmi initiated to write Tafsir of Quran. He wrote tafsir of 30th part and 1st to 9th parts. Due to some reasons, he could not complete it. Mufti Sahab completed this work and published it in 8 volumes.

Asaan Bayanul Quran: Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanawi has written a three-volume commentary on the Holy Quran in Urdu which he named "Bayan-ul-Quran". The commentary needed to be made easier. Maulana Aqeedatullah Qasmi wrote it in a simple language. Mufti Sahab revised the complete commentary and published it under the name of "Asaan Bayanul Quran", which has 5 volumes.

Faiz al-Munaim: The preface of the book Sahih Muslim is of special importance to those who read and teach hadith. Mufti Sahab’s Faiz-ul-Muneem is a commentary of that book which got popularity among Sahih Muslim readers.

Izahul Muslim: He had also started writing complete commentary of Sahih Muslim, the first volume of which got published.

Zubdah Sharh Ma'ani Al-Athar: It is the commentary of chapter of Taharah (Purity) of Imam Tahawi's famous book "Sharh Ma'ani Al Athar" in Arabic language.

Al Fauzul Al Kabeer fi Usul Al Tafsir: Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi has written the actual book in Persian which was translated into Arabic by several people. But all translated books were having flaws. Mufti Sahab added footnotes to this book and republished it. This Arabic translation is included in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and other Madarsas.

Al-Awn Al-Kabeer Sharh Al-Fauzul Al-Kabeer: This is the Arabic commentary of Al-Fauzul Al-Kabeer Fi Usul Al-Tafsir. This commentary helps to understand Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi’s book easily.

Miftah Al Tahzeeb: This is the Urdu commentary of the famous book "Tahzeeb Al-Mantiq" on the topic of logic and philosophy.

Al-Wafiyyah Bi Maqasid Al Kafiyah: The grammar book "Al-Kafiyah" is still included in the syllabus of Madarsas. Students find it difficult to understand because of the conciseness of the book. Mufti Sahab has made it somewhat easier to understand and comprehend this important book of grammar by adding footnotes and commentaries in the Arabic language itself.

Hadiya Sharh Kafiya: This is the Urdu commentary of the grammar book "Al-Kafiya". By study of this commentary, one can easily understand the book.

Fundamentals of Philosophy: Philosophy books written in Arabic are very difficult for students to understand. Mufti Sahab compiled this book at the request of the Shura Council of Darul Uloom Deoband. In this book, all the terms of philosophy have been written in Arabic in a concise and excellent manner. This book is taught to students in Darul Uloom Deoband and other Madarsas.

Moinul Falsafa: This is the best Urdu commentary of the book “Fundamentals of Philosophy” in which the complex issues of logic and philosophy have been well explained.

Basics of Principles: Students had difficulty in understanding the books of Usul Fiqh. Mufti Sahab wrote this book in Arabic language explaining the basic terms of Usul Fiqh so that after reading it, it will be easy to understand the famous books of Usul Fiqh. This book is a part of syllabus in various Madarsas.

How to Give Fatwa: Mufti Sahab translated Allama Shami's Arabic book "Sharh Aqood Rasm Al-Mufti" into Urdu and published it under the title "How to Give Fatwa?"

Easy Nahaw (Two parts) and Easy Saraf (Three parts): These books are included in the syllabus of many Madrasas. Mufti Sahab has compiled these books in a simple language for the beginner students in such a way that after reading them, Arabic grammer books can be understood easily.

Simple Persian Grammers: This is a very useful and easy book consisting of two parts for teaching Persian in elementary grades. This book is included in the syllabus in many Madarsas.

Easy Logic: This book is actually a compilation of "Taiseerul Mantiq" by Mufti Sahab. This book is included in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and many Madarsas.

Tuhfatul Durar Sharh Nukhbatul Fikr: This is the Urdu commentary of Allama Ibn Hajar Asqalani's famous book on the principles of Hadith.

Miftahul Awamil Sharh Mi’at Amil: Sharh Mi’at Amil is an important grammar book. Maulana Fakhruddin Muradabadi had written the commentary of this book, but it could not be published. Mufti Saeed Sahab published this book with valuable additions.
Ganjina of Saraf: This is the Urdu commentary of the famous book "Panj Ganj" which is in Persian written by Maulana Fakhruddin Muradabadi. But it could not be published. Mufti Sahab reviewed it and published it.

Scholarly Speeches: This is a collection of his speeches delivered abroad. His sons recorded them and Mufti Sahab reviewed every single word of them. These speeches were published in two parts.

Tazkira of Known Muhaddithin, Jurists and Narrators of Hadith: As it is clear by its name, the book is a brief summary of the jurists and theologians.

Fundamentals of Religion and the Need for Taqlid: It is collection of his few speeches on the topic of Taqlid of Imams which were published after the review of Mufti Sahab. The fundamentals of religion were added from his book Rahmatullah Al Wasiyah.

Beards and the Sunnah of the Prophets: This book is a response to various criticism regarding beard. In Addition to this, the rules of the important Sunnahs of the Prophets have been explained in this book.

Islam in a Changing World: This book is collection of his four valuable essays presented at seminars held in Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi) under the topics of 1- Islam in Changing World, 2- Issue of New Formation of Islamic Thought, 3- Principles of Understanding in Hanafi Fiqh and 4- What did the Prophet gave to the humanity.

 
Hurmat of Musa’hirat: In this book, the rules and issues pertaining to in-laws relationships have been explained.

Life of Imam Tahawi: In this book, Imam Tahawi's life and his have been dealt in detail.

The Life of Imam Abu Dawood: In this book, the biography of Imam Abu Dawood Sajistani, the author of the famous book of Hadith, Sunan Abi Dawood, a detailed introduction of Sunan Abi Dawood and a detailed review of all its explanations have been presented in an excellent manner.

Shari'ah Ruling on Condolence Meetings: This book describes the Shari'ah ruling on holding condolence meetings.

Tashil Adillah Kamilah: Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmood Hassan Deobandi presented scholarly answers to 10 questions of non Muqallidin. Mufti Sahab has compiled it in a simple language which has been published by Shaikhul Hind Academy (Darul Uloom Deoband).

Research on Tashil Adillah Kamilah: Shaikhul Hind himself wrote the commentary of his scholarly answers to 10 questions of non Muqllidin. Mufti Sahab wrote footnotes on it and also added some sub-headings. This book has also been published by Shaikhul Hind Academy.

Is Reciting Fatiha Obligatory on Muqtadi?: This is an easy-to-understand explanation of Maulana Muhammad Qasim Nanotavi's book "Tausequl Kalam Wa Al-Dalleelul Muhkam".

Irshadul Fahum Sharh Sullamul Uloom: An easy explanation of the important book of logic "Sullamul Uloom". Even the difficult parts of the book have been explained easily.

Kamil Burhan e Elahi: At the beginning of each chapter of Rahmatullah Al-Wasiyah commentary of Hujjatullah Al Balighah, Mufti Sahab has written a precise preface which is useful to explain its contents. These prefaces have been published in this book separately so that those who want to understand the meaning of Hujjatullah Al Balighah without the Arabic text can read this book. This book consists of 4 volumes.

Archives: These are 3 booklets in which Mufti Sahab has written Quranic verses and Prophetic Hadiths in Urdu with easy translation so that young children can understand and memorize them. Some Madrassas and schools have these booklets in their curriculum.

The issue of seal of Prophethood and Qadiani Conspiracies: This book, published by the Department of Darul Uloom Deoband's "All India Protection of Seal of Prophethood", discusses the rejection of Qadianism and the issue of seal of prophethood.

A Scientific Review of the Objections to the Polygamy of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH): This book is a collection of his lectures which has been complied by Kamaluddin Shihab Qasmi.

 
At the end, I would highlight some parts of Mufti Sahab’s life so that we too can follow in his footsteps and achieve success. First: Mufti Sahab’s father never fed him unlawful food. Second: he taught in Madarsas for 57 years without taking salary. Salaries which he received in his early periods, he returned them. Third: his teaching style was very popular among students. His classes would have always been jam packed. Fourth: the total number of pages of his books is about 35000 which is a sign of barakah in his life. I pray Allah to grant him abode in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen
